OpenAI published an update on its approach to conversations involving mental wellbeing. It describes work involving parental controls, trusted contacts, and recognizing signs of distress. The publication is the developer’s account of its product and organizational measures.

Context

The significant question is how a system behaves in difficult conversations, not simply which safeguards appear on a feature list. A protective feature does not turn a chatbot into medical care. Public evaluation needs clear responsibility and evidence about how the measures perform in context, including longer interactions where the situation changes.
